Kidde Canada has announced a recall on their Model PL2000CA dual sensor smoke alarms manufactured between January 1, 2009 and May 4, 2009. The recall also affects alarms made for the US market under the Model PL2000. The recall is the result of two reported incidents of smoke alarm malfunctions involving electrostatic discharge during installation, no injuries have been reported due to these malfunctions. Kidde reports that approximately 10,000 of the affected smoke alarms have been shipped into the Canadian market between March and May of this year. The Russell Fire Department advises anyone who has purchased a smoke alarm this year to check the make and model of the unit, the diagram below indicates what to look for. If you find that you have purchased one of the affected alarms, contact Kidde Canada toll free at (877) 524-2086 for a free replacement unit. We would remind families that it their responsibility to always maintain their homes in accordance with the fire code which requires that a working smoke alarm is installed on each level of the home. The Russell Fire Department will provide “loaner” smoke alarms to any family affected by this recall until they receive and install the replacement alarm. Please contact us at 613-445-3326 if you require a loaner smoke alarm. For further information about this recall see the following link: http://www.kiddecanada.com/
